Hyperthyroidism is a condition where the thyroid gland produces too much of the hormone thyroxine. Hyperthyroidism can accelerate your body's metabolism significantly, leading to symptoms such as shakiness, weight loss and anxiety. It is a common condition which generally affects more women than men. Around 2% of women are likely to experience some form of hyperthyroidism during their lifetime.
