Hyperinflation inferred from a standard chest x-ray implies an increased total lung capacity. Hyperinflated lungs can be caused by obstructions in the passageways that deliver air to your lung tissues. One of the most common causes of hyperinflated lungs is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
