Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) is an uncommon sexually transmitted bacterial infection caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. LGV is endemic in certain areas of Africa, Southeast Asia, India, the Caribbean, and South America. Symptoms can begin from a few days to a month after coming in contact with the bacteria. Symptoms include blood in the stool, painful bowel movements, small painless sores in the genital region and swollen groin lymph nodes. The infection can also cause diarrhea and lower abdominal pain.
