Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas. Pancreatitis can be acute or chronic. Mild cases may go away without treatment, while severe cases can cause potentially life-threatening complications. Symptoms of acute pancreatitis include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal tenderness.
