Full information

Retinal Detachment

ID 2452

Retinal detachment occurs when the retina pulls away from the layer of blood vessels that provide it with oxygen and nourishment. The longer retinal detachment goes untreated, the greater the risk of permanent vision loss in the affected eye. Symptoms may include sudden flashes of light in the affected eye, the sudden appearance of small bits of debris in your field of vision, or a shadow developing over a portion of your visual field. If you suspect you have retinal detachment, contact an eye specialist as soon as warning signs appear.
